My storyboards for our thriller opening will be scanned in ASAP.

Props

This is one of the first props that will be shown in the very first shot. The mise-en-scene shows our main character, Adalia, putting on her bright red lipstick. This is a signifier for our femme fatal woman as it shows sexiness and deviance and also confidence.

This is another prop we plan to be using which will be shown in a flash back scene of Adalia washing blood off of this knife in the sink. The reason we chose to include a knife is because it is a thriller aspect as it implies violence (along with guns). It is also a reference to Psycho in the shower scene when Marion Crane is murdered.

Other prop’s we will be using is mascara for another mirror shot we will be taking, with an extreme close up on the eye. Newspaper and money for Adalia to wrap up and put in her bag with a reference to Psycho again, and also shows us that she is running away from someone/something.

Set

This is one of the possible locations, which will feature in our thriller film. It is a bedroom clip that is shown a couple of times to reflect betrayal and murder in flash back mode. The mise-en-scene shows a normal bedroom – every day casual. The reason we chose this bedroom is because it has available usage for filming.

When filming this there will be hopefully be spotlighting coming from a lamp so there is a lot of shadows present which can give scary and spooky effects. If we don't use lamp spotlighting there is low light anyway which can give similar effects.

The third is another point of view of the same bedroom location. We have taken this picture to show a shot of the mirror as we plan to use a mirror shot of the same flashback using editing to make it quick and effective. The mise-en-scene shows a lot going on and we would centre the spot in which we were targeting to attract attention.

The results of our questionnaire

From the graphs above, it can be concluded that with younger audiences, choice of thriller genre is varied, for instance females aged 16-18 enjoy Crime Thrillers, whilst the males do not, also a higher proportion of males aged 16-18 prefer Psychological Thrillers then females. The graphs also show that as males and females age, their favour in thriller genres even out, and more or less become the same proportions for each gender.

Basic plot of our thriller

The main character in our thriller is Adalia, she is portrayed as the 'femme fatale' character. She has a boyfriend, his name is Rob. The opening begins with an extreme close up of Adalia's lips, of which she is applying a bright red lipstick. There will be only non-diagetic sound, a backing track which hasn't yet been decided. The camera then fades into black and white and there is an establishing scene in a bedroom, where Rob is in bed with another woman, Faye. This is a flashback. Adalia can be seen watching through the door, which is slightly ajar, however Rob and Faye are oblivious. The camera zooms in and focuses on Rob and Faye intimately kissing, implying that they have had a sexual encounter. The camera then cuts to another extreme close up of Adalia applying thick black mascara to her eye then fades into another flashback in black and white, this time of Rob and Faye still lying in the same bed, yet covered in blood, and seemingly dead. The door to the bedroom is closed. The camera then cuts to a close up of Adalias hands, where she is painting her nails a bright red. She spills the bright red nail varnish on the desk. The camera zooms into this pool of nail varnish, and zooms out to a close up of a sink, with Adalia washing the red nail varnish off her hands. The scene turns into another black and white flashback, where Adalia is now washing blood off of a knife. This implies that she has committed the murder of Rob and Faye.The camera then cuts to an over the shoulder shot of Adalia folding a bundle of notes inside a newspaper, making a reference to 'Psycho'. The handbag beside Adalia is then focused on as the folded newspaper is then placed inside. This implies that Adalia is running away. The camera then cuts to an extreme close up of Adalia zipping up her high-heeled boots and beginning to walk. The camera cuts out, and the screen becomes black. Non-diagetic sound stops as a door is heard slamming - the camera then focuses on a closed front door and heels are heard walking away from the camera. The camera then cuts to a scene of Adalia walking down a deserted alley way, the camera using a long shot, 'following' Adalia down the alley. Non-diagetic sound gradually gets louder and diagetic sound is no longer heard. A car is seen in the distance and Adalia walks towards it. The camera follows her to the car and as the drivers door is slammed behind Adalia, the camera keeping a close up of Adalia inside the car and non-diagetic sound stops. The camera then cuts to an over the sholder shot of Adalia in the car, and as she moves the rear-view mirror to look into, the camera focuses on the rear view mirror, and the face of the 'dead' boyfriend Rob can be seen reflected from the back of the car. The camera then cuts out to black, and all that can be heard is the sound of Adalias scream.
